Since 2019, international travellers wishing to visit New Zealand have been required to have an electronic travel authorisation (NZeTA) to enter the country. Many of you are wondering about this new administrative procedure, its cost and the conditions to be met to obtain this essential authorisation.

Here's all the information you need to know about the NZeTA, its price and the steps you need to follow to apply online without difficulty. So get your plane tickets and passport ready, we'll explain everything!

What is the NZeTA electronic travel authorisation?

The NZeTA (New Zealand Electronic Travel Authority) is an electronic authorisation that allows citizens from certain countries to travel to New Zealand for tourism, transit or short family visits. It was introduced by the New Zealand authorities to strengthen the country's security and facilitate border controls.

This permit is valid for a period of two years from the date of issue and allows multiple visits to New Zealand of up to 3 months each. So with a valid NZeTA, you don't need to apply for a visa every time you want to visit New Zealand.

Who should apply for an NZeTA electronic travel authorisation?

Nationals of the several dozen visa-exempt countries for New Zealand must apply for a NZeTA before departure. These countries include the United States, Canada, Australia and European Union member states, including France and Belgium. People transiting through New Zealand en route to another destination must also obtain this authorisation online.
